Comparing Invisalign vs. Braces: Cost, Results & Treatment Time

If you’re unhappy with crooked, crowded, or uneven teeth and you’re considering braces and Invisalign in Queen Anne, Seattle Dental Co. is here to help! We want to keep our patients informed and help you compare your options across a number of different categories. Here are some things to consider as you consider different orthodontic treatments, including overall cost, expected results, and total treatment time:

Invisalign Vs. Braces – How Much Does Treatment Cost?

It is very difficult to provide an accurate cost estimate for orthodontic treatment unless you schedule a consultation with Dr. Guerrero or Dr. Song. The cost of orthodontic treatment is different for each patient and it depends on many different factors, including your overall oral health, the position of your teeth and your jaw, the extent of your orthodontic needs.

That means it’s difficult to provide you with a direct comparison when it comes to Invisalign vs. braces. However, the costs of these treatments are usually fairly similar. While one or the other may be a bit more costly depending on your oral health, they are usually quite comparable in price if you are a candidate for both treatments.

Invisalign Vs. Braces – What Results Can I Expect?

You will end up with a beautiful, straight and healthy smile no matter which treatment you choose. If you’re a good candidate for both treatments, they will both offer you the same results.

However, Invisalign is not quite as effective at treating some kinds of orthodontic issues. If you have a lot of complex, hard-to-treat orthodontic problems, traditional metal braces are typically a better option, and you may not be approved for Invisalign.

Because of this, braces will offer better overall results if you have serious bite problems, a malpositioned jaw, or extremely crooked, rotated, or uneven teeth.

Invisalign Vs. Braces – How Long Does Treatment Take?

With Invisalign treatment, most patients will require a series of about 20-24 aligners to complete their procedure. Since each set of aligners will typically be worn for about two weeks, this puts the average treatment time at about 12 months.

Braces, on the other hand, usually require a minimum of 12-18 months to correct your smile, and more complex orthodontic issues may require you to wear them for 2-3 years or longer. The benefit of longer treatment times, of course, is that braces can treat much more complex orthodontic issues.
